James R. Smith

James R. "Ronnie" Smith, 68, of New Creek, WV, died Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.

Born on September 15, 1944 at Keyser, WV, he was a son of the late Mervin Lee and Bessie Mae (Hoover) Smith. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Roger Smith and Mervin L. "Bud" Smith, Sr.

Mr. Smith was employed for 20 years as a coal miner with Laurel Run Mining. He was a 1962 graduate of Piedmont High School and was a member of Lodge # 662, L.O.O.M., Keyser.

Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Donna J. (Cooper) Smith; three daughters, Sydney Renee Smith of Petersburg, WV and Keyser, Connie Lynne Smith and Belinda Sue "Benni" Ashenfelter Smith, both of Keyser; one brother, Walter Smith of Buffalo, WV; six sisters, Lavonna Purinton of Keyser, Neda Jordan of Hilliard, OH, Jenny Pitsenbarger of Fort Seybert, WV, Donna Klosterman of Sulphur, LA, Joyce Thomas of New Creek, WV and Susan Riggleman of Keymont, WV; three grandchildren, Brittani Leigh Smith, who was raised by Ronnie and Donna, Gregory Allen Clark, II and Derek Scott Clark and four great-grandchildren, Merina, Rowyn, Annabella and Gregory, III.

Memorial services were conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. The family received friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Brandywine, WV at the convenience of the family.
