Harry W. Shoemaker, Sr., 80, of Junction, WV, died Sunday, October 16, 2011 at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA. He had been under the care of the Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born on September 13, 1931 at Junction, WV, he was a son of the late Thomas Arthur and Ruth (Sulser) Shoemaker. He also was preceded in death by a son, Rodney Scott Shoemaker; two sisters, an infant, Alice Shoemaker and Irma "Peg" Rinker and two brothers, Orville and Thomas Shoemaker.
Mr. Shoemaker was retired from the Mineral County Board of Education as a bus driver for 16 1/2 years. He also was formerly employed with Potomac Farms Dairy in Cumberland, MD. He served as a radio operator with the US Navy during the Korean Conflict and was a member of Hampshire Post # 91, American Legion, Romney, WV. He was a member of the Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, Purgitsville, WV, was a member of the Mill Creek Ruritan Club and served on the board of directors of the Old Pine Church and Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Juanita Gail (Iser) Shoemaker; his children, Sonya Racey and husband Larry of Falling Waters, WV, Pam Frazier and husband Mike of Warrenton, VA, Harry "Bill" Shoemaker, Jr. and Kimberly Smith and husband Jamie of Romney; a stepdaughter, Wendy Mammoliti and husband Sam of Ontario, Canada; a brother, Willis Shumaker of Keyser, WV; a sister, Nellie Rogers of Keyser; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.
Friends were received at the Smith Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel, on Thursday, October 20, 2011 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services were conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel, on Friday, October 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Judi Stump officiating.
Interment was in the Old Pine Cemetery, Purgitsville. Graveside military honos were accorded.
